Why AI in Manufacturing Needs a Foundation, Not Just Data
Every plant has data. ERP transactions, MES events, shop floor reports, quality records, maintenance logs. Most of it has been collected for years. And yet, when production teams are asked where their bottleneck is, why throughput dropped last week, or which order is at risk, the answer often comes from experience, gut feel, or a spreadsheet someone maintains on the side. The promise of AI is that this changes. That algorithms do the sifting, AI agents do the analysis, and operations teams finally spend their time acting instead of searching. The promise is real. The shortcut that most initiatives take to get there is not.
